Twin Filter Set
Gulden Ophthalmics has introduced a new twin filter set that enhances the visibility of vital stains such as sodium fluorescein and lissamine green used in eye exams.
The Ohlson Vital Stain Enhancement Filter Set features a yellow filter and a red filter, side-by-side, and it is typically used in front of slit-lamp viewing systems. The yellow filter can be used to enhance the visibility of the fluorescein pattern in the examination of the fit of rigid gas permeable contact lenses and silicone hydrogel contact lenses. The red filter is used for red-lens tests and to enhance assessment of dry eye conditions by increasing the visibility of lissamine green staining on the bulbar conjunctiva.
The set comes in a flip-out case that prevents scratching of the filters. The filters and case measure three inches in diameter.
3-D Nonmydriatic Camera
Kowa Optimed has announced that it has received 501(k) approval from the FDA for the marketing of its nonmydriatic 3-D retinal camera for simultaneous stereoscopic retinal photography.
The Nonmyd WX3D Retinal Camera adds the latest in simultaneous stereoscopic photography to its already-integrated normal and small pupil settings. With the addition of 3-D photography of the optic disc, the company intends to provide physicians with the ability to better diagnose glaucoma in their patients.
The camera is also 2-D capable, with a 12-megapixel digital SLR camera intended to deliver extremely detailed retinal images. The integrated nine-points internal fixation system allows for auto mosaic photography covering a large retinal area.
When the camera is connected to Kowa’s Digiversal Open Image Management System, images can be quickly viewed, compared, organized, annotated and shared.
Hi-Tech Pharmacal has announced that its abbreviated new drug application for levofloxacin ophthalmic solution 0.5 percent has received final approval from the FDA. The product is indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis and is a generic for Vistakon’s Quixin ophthalmic solution.
