Retina/Vitreous, Vitreoretinal Surgery
In this 1-Minute Video, Drs. Vishal Parikh and Gaurav Shah present their technique for posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) induction with 27-gauge vitrectomy and hydrodissection. They begin by engaging the posterior hyaloid over the superotemporal hyaloid and making a small opening. The opening is then enlarged by moving the vitrector circumferentially in the mid-periphery, with the cutter facing the retina. This allows the infusion to hydrodissect the posterior hyaloid from the retinal surface and avoids the potential trauma that can be caused by manually lifting the hyaloid.
