Dr. John Hovanesian offers advice for applying ReSure® Sealant (Ocular Therapeutix) to cataract incisions. According to findings from previous studies, the hydrogel seals wounds more effectively than stitches. Dr. Hovanesian emphasizes that the key steps are to ensure the ocular surface is dry and hydrating the wound to keep it from leaking. From there, the steps are straightforward: Mix the gel and activator for 5 seconds, finish applying it to the eye by 11 seconds, and to let the sealant polymerize for 30 additional seconds.
