What To Do When You Suspect Giant Cell Arteritis

Dr. Vivek Patel shares tips on mitigating vision loss in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA). He advises that patients should begin steroid therapy at the first signs of GCA, even before a biopsy is performed. Those with GCA-related vision loss should be treated intravenously for 3 days before beginning an oral steroid regimen. The ophthalmologist should work closely with a rheumatologist to maximize care for these patients.
