In this 1-Minute Video, Dr. Carol Shields offers tips on differentiating iris melanoma from a freckle or nevus. She notes that freckles tend to be flat, whereas nevi tend to involve the stroma and cause corectopia. Melanoma, on the other hand, are often 2 or more clock hours and often presents with seeding on the stroma or into the angle. Risk factors for melanoma include age under 40 years, blood in the anterior chamber, clock hour inferior, diffuse configuration, ectropion and feathery margin (ABCDEF guide).
