    Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cornea/External Disease

In this 1-Minute Video, Dr. David Epley offers pearls for maximizing patient comfort after surgery on the surface of the eye. Recent studies suggest that a topical anesthetic, administered prior to the first incision, will reduce postoperative pain. Dr. Epley recommends placing an anesthetic eyedrop on the eye before the instillation of betadine and, after surgery, injecting a topical anesthetic around the structures that were operated on. These steps will improve patient comfort during the postoperative period.
