RELIEF Technique

Dr. Masayuki Akimoto, who helped to develop the Remnant Extraction by using an intraocular Lens-Injector with Essential Flow (RELIEF) technique, demonstrates extraction of a Soemmerring ring from an aphakic eye that had cataract surgery 50 years ago. A circumferential Soemmerring ring was found behind the iris, and after it was released an IOL injector was inserted into the anterior through the corneoscleral incision under vitreous infusion. The Soemmerring ring was then removed, with the assistance of a hook.
