Running Conjunctival Closure in Fornix-Based Strabismus Surgery

In this video, originally presented at the AAO 2022 Pediatric Subspecialty Day, Dr. Deborah VanderVeen demonstrates a quick and easy way to close the conjunctival incision after fornix-based strabismus surgery. After the incision length is identified and the conjunctiva engaged, the needle is passed from the inside to the outside of the incision, draping the edge of the conjunctiva over the needle tip. Making closer passes allows for a tighter closure. If the incision is too long to close with one pass, the needle can be regrasped to allow for draping to continue. Once the incision is closed, the suture is run back and forth to evenly distribute the tissue along the suture.
