In this video, Dr. Sid Schechet and colleagues demonstrate how to use a guarded, diamond LRI knife (Katena) to safely and efficiently create the initial grooves of scleral belt loops for scleral buckling surgery. He recommends using a depth of 300 microns. This technique helps prevent perforation and saves precious time during these often-times lengthy and complex surgeries for retinal detachments.
