Cornea/External Disease, Dry Eye , Ocular Surface Disease

Dr. Bennie Jeng describes the benefits of using scleral lenses in patients with severe ocular surface disease. The lenses continuously bathe the ocular surface in a reservoir of fluid, alleviating the extreme dryness that accompanies severe conditions such as graft-versus-host disease or Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Ensuring a proper fit is critical, however, so Dr. Jeng recommends referring patients to an ophthalmologist with expertise in fitting these lenses.
