Silicone Oil Instillation Tips

In this 1-Minute Video, Drs. Katherine Talcott and Sunir Garg demonstrate a technique for instilling silicone oil after retinal detachment repair using widefield viewing. After venting the remaining air pockets, a silicone oil fill is initiated. Using a carefully controlled approach, the oil is allowed to come up through the infusion line before increasing the infusion pressure and directing the retrograde flow of oil back into the eye.
