Simplified Technique for Removing a Malyugin Ring

In this 1-Minute video, Dr. Rahul Pandit demonstrates a simplified technique for removing a Malyugin ring. With the same Kuglen hook used to position the IOL, Dr. Pandit disengages the left-most, followed by the right-most, eyelets from the iris. He then uses the hook to push forward on the proximal eyelet. By rotating the hook, the eyelet can be captured and the ring can be pulled entirely out of the iris. The ring should be pulled laterally, away from the wound. Once the ring is halfway out of the eye, the surgeon should pull up and away from the eye. This allows the ring to collapse in on itself without the internal eyelet touching the endothelium.
