In this interview from AAO 2017, Dr. Chirag Shah discusses the first clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of YAG laser vitreolysis for symptomatic floaters arising from posterior vitreous detachment. His findings, which were published in JAMA Ophthalmology, showed patients had improved symptoms, visual disturbances and vision-related quality of life following the procedure. Dr. Shah cautions that this was a pilot study, and that larger controlled trials will be necessary to fully assess its efficacy and long-term safety.
