Using a Phaco Tip with No ABS Hole

Cataract Spotlight/AAO 2022
Cataract/Anterior Segment, Complications, Mature Cataract, New Technology and Instruments, Wound Construction

This presentation highlights a case of thermal damage in a patient with dense cataracts. Dr. Lisa Brothers Arbisser was using a phacoemulsification tip that had no aspiration bypass system (ABS) hole. After completing nuclear emulsification, she noticed an incision burn. An expert panel and the audience consider how to close the corneal incision, which has whitened edges and slight gaping, following intraocular lens implantation.
