In this whiteboard video, Drs. Rajeev Muni, Carolina Francisconi and team discuss recent evidence from The Pneumatic Retinopexy versus Vitrectomy for the Management of Primary Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment Outcomes Randomized Trial (PIVOT). The functional results demonstrate superior ETDRS visual acuity in the pneumatic retinopexy group compared with vitrectomy at all time points (months 3, 6 and 12). Pneumatic retinopexy was also associated with less vertical metamorphopsia compared to vitrectomy at 1-year.

Finally, Dr. Muni summarizes the current evidence and provides evidence-based recommendations for preferred retinal detachment repair technique based on retinal detachment morphology to optimize functional outcomes for patients.
