How to Proceed with a Posterior Capsular Rent

Cataract Spotlight/AAO 2022
Cataract/Anterior Segment, Complications, IOLs and Implantation, Vitrectomy

In this presentation, experts consider how to handle a posterior capsular rent. While operating on a typical 69-year-old patient, Dr. Jeff Pettey observed sudden deepening of the chamber with a wide central posterior capsular defect. The epinucleus remained and the phacoemulsification handpiece was still in the anterior chamber. The audience and expert panel consider approaches such as injecting an ophthalmic viscosurgical device, triamcinolone staining, and switching to irrigation and aspiration.
