Antimicrobial Prophylaxis in Cataract Surgery: Why I don’t Use Intrameral Antibiotics

    AAO 2016
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

In this presentation from AAO 2016, Terrence P. O'Brien, MD, presents concerns with these antibiotics, pointing out errors in dilution, contamination, TASS, and anaphgylaxis/penicillin allergy. Evidence increasingly points to intracameral delivery of antibiotic at the conclusion of the case as the preferred route of delivery for protection from clinical endophthlamitis.

This presentation was co-sponsored by the Cataract Preferred Practice Patterns Committee.
