    Subspecialty Day 2012: Glaucoma

Why does Dr. Marlene Moster like the Ex-PRESS mini-shunt? Mainly because it eliminates some of the variability in glaucoma surgery, which it does by delivering a consistent 50-micron flow of aqueous, creating an immediate posterior bleb, and requiring no iridectomy. Patients recover quickly and IOP can be brought down to the low teens. In this presentation from the 2012 Annual Meeting, Dr. Moster says the Ex-PRESS shunt is preferred in moderate to high myopes, patients with a failed trabeculectomy, those with a history of scarring, vitrectomy, or corneal grafts with open angles and high IOP, and pseudophakic eyes.
