CSF Pressure: Is It an Important Part of Glaucoma?

    Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2016
    07:09
    Glaucoma, Open-Angle Glaucoma

Dr. R. Rand Allingham discusses growing evidence that lower cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure increases the risk of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and normal-tension glaucoma (NTG). Other biological factors that are associated with lower CSF pressure including age, blood pressure, and BMI are also associated with increased risk of POAG and should be considered during assessment of POAG patients. He also suggests that the ability to noninvasively measure CSF pressure could represent a potentially powerful approach to treating both POAG and NTG patients.
