Dr. Carla Siegfried provides an overview of goniosynechialysis, a method of opening the angle by physically separating the peripheral anterior synechiae from the trabecular meshwork with direct or indirect visualization. The surgical technique might decrease the need for more-invasive and higher-risk procedures. Intraoperative techniques are not complex, especially considering more recent MIG angle procedures. Dr. Siegfried also suggests that phacoemulsification combined with goniosynechialysis might be an effective and safe treatment option for patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma.
