How to Best Assess Visual Field Progression

    Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2016
    06:36
    Diagnostic & Imaging, Glaucoma

Dr. Chris Johnson discusses the difficulties with assessing glaucomatous visual field (VF) progression because VF testing usually involves subjective responses, leading to considerable variability from one test to the next. He offers the following pearls:

    • When in doubt, repeat the test and compare with other structural and clinical information.
    • One test or examination is usually not sufficient to provide a complete answer to progression.
    • Individual changes are better than comparison to population-based information.
    • Progression procedures should be simple and easy to interpret in a clinical setting.
    • Ask the right questions and be a good listener.
