Dr. Davinder Grover describes how a patient’s inherent drainage system can help predict when a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) will become a minimally effective glaucoma surgery (MEGS). Grover presents a novel algorithm for glaucoma surgery that relies on the robustness of the episcleral venous fluid wave as an indicator of drainage system function, and consequently, MEGS risk. In the wave’s absence, he says, patients have a poor prognosis after surgery.

Relevant Financial Disclosures: Grover’s practice is involved in clinical trials with Aerie Pharmaceuticals, Allergan and InnFocus/Santen. He also has ties to Allergan, Alcon Laboratories, Reichert Technologies, and Neomedix.
