ILM Graft as a Treatment for the Fast Resolution of RD Secondary to an ODC

    AAO 2020 Video Program
    Retina/Vitreous, Vitreoretinal Surgery

We present an internal limiting membrane (ILM) graft procedure combined with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) performed in small retinal tears with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) secondary to optic disc coloboma (ODC). This direct closure, by tucking a plug composed of an ILM autograft in the bare area of the retinal tear, allows a quick and effective interruption of the communication between the subretinal space and the vitreous cavity. A comprehensive visual analysis of the optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans allows detection of the tear, even if it is small, and the use of vital dye precisely locates the lesion during the surgery.
