The Light! It Hurts My Eyes!

    AAO 2015
    Neuro-Ophthalmology/Orbit

    • Most patients with light sensitivity do not have an ocular problem (eg, iritis).
    • Most patients with light sensitivity have migraine, although it might be undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
    • The purpose of the ophthalmic exam is to rule out other light-sensitive conditions such as dry eye and blepharospasm.
    • Management includes optical treatments for indoor and outdoor light sensitivity and referral to a headache specialist or neurologist.
