Managing a Dropped IOL Using an Extrusion Cannula

    By Amar Agarwal, MD

This video describes a technique for managing a dropped IOL using an extrusion cannula. With its flexible sleeve, the extrusion cannula helps reach the subretinal space effectively. However, Dr. Agarwal’s practice uses the extrusion cannula without sleeves for levitating dropped IOLs because removal allows a wider area for adherence and subsequent creation of effective suction to the IOL. This technique reduces the risk of retinal tears and retinal hemorrhage.
