Metabolic Imaging in Retinal Ganglion Cells

Jeffrey Goldberg, MD, PhD, has been motivated by the hypothesis that structural and/or metabolic changes in the retina will allow us to detect and monitor glaucoma and evaluate treatment efficacy. The challenge to the field has been the lack of tools sufficient to detect such changes, and indeed the nature of the changes remains opaque. Dr. Goldberg discusses mitochondrial metabolic and structural imaging, structural and functional imaging of ON versus OFF RGCs, and human subjects testing.
