Multifocal IOLs Preoperative Pearls and Pitfalls
By David F. Chang, MD
Annual Meeting 2013
Cataract/Anterior Segment, Comprehensive Ophthalmology
This is part 2 of an 7-part series of presentations discussing how advances in technology, IOLs, phaco machines, femtolasers, hydrogel bandages and indications are making cataract surgery extremely similar to refractive surgery. The cataract surgeon must not only provide restoration of vision but also optimal vision quality; the ideal, and increasingly demanded, result of cataract surgery is plano correction. This requires accurate customization of IOL choice, obsessively accurate biometry, adoption of new technologies (microincision and premium IOLs: multifocal, toric, multifocal + toric, aspheric). This series of presentations is designed to provide the audience with key information in applying a refractive surgery approach to exploiting recent technological, surgical, organizational, and patient management advances.
Part 1: Toric IOLs: Literature and Personal Results
Part 2: Multifocal IOLs Preoperative Pearls and Pitfalls
Part 3: Cataract Surgery Update 2013
Part 4: Hydrogel Ocular Bandages to Protect and Increase Watertight Properties of Corneal Incisions after Cataract Surgery, Four Years Experience
Part 5: Recent Case with Microincision Lens Implant
Part 6: Computer Programs for IOL Power Calculations in Post-Refractive Patients
Part 7: Options for Secondary Posterior Chamber IOLs: Scleral Tunnel with Glue
