In 2012, an international group of macular disease experts came together to develop a consensus system to facilitate the diagnosis and management of vitreomacular adhesion and diseases of the vitreomacular interface. The introduction of spectral domain OCT, which has provided a better understanding of these diseases, as well as new therapies such as ocriplasmin, drove the creation of the new system.
