This video describes a new disposable pupil extension ring that combines the advantages of both the Malyugin Ring and iris hooks, making it more compatible with newer technologies such as femtosecond lasers. A single-plane device made of 5-0 nylon, the ring is lighter and more flexible than a Malyugin Ring and comes in both square and hexagonal designs. Insertion and removal of the device through a 0.9-mm (20-gauge) incision is demonstrated. The device is used in shallow anterior chambers, intraoperative miosis, and intraoperative floppy iris syndrome.
