Novel Treatment Options for IOP: Independent Factors

    Glaucoma Subspecialty Day 2016
    06:54
    Glaucoma, IOP and Aqueous Flow

Dr. Cynthia Mattox discusses novel options for non-IOP-lowering treatments that can have a protective effect on the optic nerve and retinal ganglion cells. Some beneficial options include increasing the intake of dark-green leafy vegetables and beta-carotene, along with regular exercise and keeping a healthy weight. In contrast, calcium, iron, and magnesium could have an adverse effect, and should not be advised in patients who do not have a mineral deficiency. Strong evidence for the efficacy of herbal supplements, antioxidants, and acupuncture remains limited.
