Plasma Rich in Growth Factors Membrane: A Novel Treatment in MacTel Type 2 Associated MH
AAO2021 Video Program
Retina/Vitreous
Purpose To showcase the benefits of plasma rich in growth factors membrane (PRGFm) regenerative properties in a neurodegenerative ocular disease. Methods An educational video with a collection of cases of macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel) associated full-thickness macular hole (FTMH) where PRGFm is used as an adjuvant to standard of care. Results A noncommercial technique to obtain and prepare PRGFm is explained, along with its properties and uses in ophthalmology. Different clinical cases of MacTel type 2 FTMH receiving treatment with PRGFm are shown with multimodal imaging. The steps for intraoperative PRGFm use are reviewed didactically. Swept source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) highlights anatomical and functional changes. Conclusion PRGFm is an easy to procure and use alternative in the treatment of MacTel type 2 MH with promising anecdotal results.
