Audrey Gilbert and Jane Edmond present arguments for and against requiring neuroimaging for children with acute comitant esotropia. The for arguments include the fact that  potential etiologies underlying ACE are broad, but it may be associated with significant neurologic disease in some cases. The against arguments include the fact that the vast majority of the publications regarding acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE) in the past decade have reported much lower incidences of intracranial pathology and brought to light additional possible non-intracranial risk factors.
