Using intraoperative video, this course reviews all aspects of managing patients with intraocular foreign bodies: history, epidemiology, pathophysiology, evaluation, instrumentation, timing, management principles and practice, complications, prognosis and outcome, and controversies. A novel surgical method, prophylactic chorioretinectomy, to prevent the development of proliferative vitreoretinopathy, is discussed. The objective of this video is to provide ophthalmologists with the necessary information for optimal treatment of patients with intraocular foreign body injuries.
