Preloaded DMEK: Achieving Success with Patient-Ready DMEK Tissue

    Cornea/External Disease, DMEK

This video is a brief introduction to use of preloaded patient-ready Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) tissue. Patient-ready DMEK tissue is delivered to the surgeon in a Straiko-modified Jones tube, which is housed inside a cornea-viewing chamber containing Optisol. This prestripped, prepunched, prestamped, prestained, and preloaded tissue makes the transition to DMEK surgery easier for novice surgeons and shortens the duration of surgery for more experienced surgeons. Use of preloaded DMEK tissue helps to decrease the risk of tissue wastage and takes advantage of the tissue preparation skills of eye bank professionals to minimize iatrogenic endothelial cell loss.
