The Twitching Eyelid: What’s the Cause?
By Nathan Troy Tagg, MD
Subspecialty Day 2011: Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-Ophthalmology/Orbit
Dr. Nathan Tagg presents a case of intermittent eyelid twitching at Neuro-Ophthalmology Subspecialty Day 2011. Examination of the patient’s eyelids and face reveals abnormal movements on the right, with undulation around the eyelids, cheek, angle of mouth, and platysma. These findings are consistent with facial myokymia. Diagnostic evaluation includes an MRI scan of the brain with contrast, which demonstrates a right-sided lesion at the level of the caudal pons.
