    XFS is a protean disorder that is an ocular manifestation of a systemic disease associated with multiple genes, failure of autophagy, and associated vascular and elastic tissue abnormalities. Only in recent years has its importance been accepted, and newly intensive research is increasingly making surprising discoveries. Non-IOP treatment modalities are potentially applicable at various steps of disease development, which could eventually lead to prevention or reversal of this disease.
