Intraoperative management of corneal astigmatism remains in many ways more art than science. Although femtosecond laser provides precise incisions, the placement of those incisions depends on both surgeon and nomogram. In today’s interview, Dr. Lisa Arbisser talks with Dr. Harald Studer, a biomechanical engineer at Integrated Scientific Services, who has developed software that simulates the biomechanics of the human cornea. This software predicts postoperative topography following cataract surgery, making it possible for surgeons to create a highly predictable and custom plan for limbal relaxing incisions with a femtosecond laser.
