    Techniques for Efficient Capsulorrhexis

    03:01
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Drs. Joseph Fong and Ahmed Sallam demonstrate tips for an efficient and continuous curvilinear capsulorrhexis (CCC). Novice cataract surgeons should avoid several common mistakes. First, they should avoid dropping the tail (or trailing edge) of the flap directly on top of the tearing point (or base) of the flap. Second, they should avoid stopping to re-grasp the flap directly on either side of the main wound. Doing so places the forceps in poor ergonomic positions, causing distortion of the main wound and excessive burping of the viscoelastic. The techniques shown can be easily implemented by novice cataract surgeons to provide superior control during efficient capsulorrhexis creation.
