Dr. Aref is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and attending physician in the Glaucoma and Cataract Consultation Service at the Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary, where he also serves as Chief Quality Officer and Residency Program Director. His research interests include the development of novel glaucoma surgical techniques, management of dry eye and ocular surface disease related to glaucoma medication toxicity, and the improvement of glaucoma diagnosis using computerized imaging methods. Dr. Aref has authored over 40 scientific publications and book chapters, including his recently published textbook, Advanced Glaucoma Surgery.
Dr. Aref received his medical degree from Northwestern University, followed by residency at Penn State Hershey Eye Center. He completed his fellowship in glaucoma the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
