Dr. Ajay Kuriyan is a board-certified ophthalmologist at the Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center. His clinical interests encompass the medical and surgical treatment of retinal disease, including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusion, macular edema, retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and hereditary retinal diseases. Dr. Kuriyan has contributed to more than 50 peer reviewed articles, textbook chapters, presentations, and scientific posters. His specific research interests include developing novel compounds to inhibit proliferative vitreoretinopathy, the use and development of imaging technology to aid in earlier detection of retinal disease and provide prognostic information for visual outcomes, retinal vascular disease, and the management of endophthalmitis.
Upon graduating from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Dr. Kuriyan completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami. He is a member of the American Retina Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the society of Heed Ophthalmic Fellows
