Shriji N. Patel, MD is a vitreoretinal surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and also serves as the Co-Director for the vitreoretinal surgical fellowship. He also directs retina-related clinical trials at Vanderbilt.
After graduating with a BA in Neuroscience and Behavior from Columbia University, Dr. Patel completed his medical training and ophthalmology residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He served as Chief Resident prior to completing a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute.
Dr. Patel has authored several publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, numerous book chapters and presented at national meetings. He is on the writing committee for the American Academy of Ophthalmology BCSC (Basic and Clinical Science Course). Dr. Patel has a special interest in vitreoretinal surgical technique and advancement.
