    Retina/Vitreous, Vitreoretinal Surgery

In this surgical video, Drs. Alia Durrani and Shriji Patel use the 27-gauge vitrectomy system to treat a patient with diabetic tractional detachment. The patient presented with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and tractional detachment, with hand motion vision at presentation. Drs. Durrani and Patel show that the 27-gauge system is useful due to the versatility of the vitrectomy probe. Because of its size, membranes can be carefully dissected, peeled and cut with one instrument, without the need for additional chandelier lighting systems.
