Dr. Uday Desai demonstrates removal of a metallic foreign body using alligator forceps. These forceps are easily found in most operating rooms within an ear, nose and throat instrument set, and can be used to remove both magnetic and non-magnetic foreign bodies. The jaws can open up to 5-mm wide, and the serrated surface allows the surgeon to grasp even large foreign bodies securely. Dr. Desai recommends this inexpensive, effective and readily available tool for these infrequent but potentially devastating cases.
