Bowl-Out Technique for Managing Anterior Capsular Tears

Drs. Austin Nakatsuka and Brian Wong demonstrate a "bowl-out" technique to safely remove a cataract in the presence of anterior capsular tears. The 36-year-old patient developed a large anterior capsule plaque and posterior subcapsular cataract after trauma. Despite the use of retina scissors, a small anterior capsule tear developed during the capsulorhexis. The "bowl-out" technique was used to safely remove the cataract without extending the tear.
