Drs. Rohit Om Parkash, Shruti Mahajan and Tushya Om Parkash introduce the flap motility sign, a method to help gauge the extent of an anterior capsular tear. Everted and fluttering flaps of anterior capsular tears typically indicate a pre-equatorial tear. By contrast, inverted and non-fluttering flaps indicate a tear has extended around the equator through the posterior capsule. Unlike the classical signs of posterior capsule rupture, the flap motility sign appears instantly and can help surgeons of varying expertise plan their next steps during surgery.
