Implantable Phakic Contact Lens Tips for Beginners

Dr. Ashish Sapkal demonstrates tips for loading and injecting an implantable phakic contact lens (IPCL). White-to-white is measured with a digital caliper, and adding a fixation ring allows for better control of the various parts of the corneal tunnel. Instead of using an ophthalmic viscosurgical device at the nozzle, which could induce more resistance to the IPCL's passage through the nozzle, Dr. Sapkal uses a balanced salt solution. As well, the vault of the IPCL should be facing up so that the optic does not overhang on the line of closure of the butterfly.
