Drs. David Ehmann and Sonia Mehta remove an infected and extruded sponge from a 54-year old man who underwent a scleral buckle procedure 20 years prior. He presented with a 2-month history of pain, redness and discharge. After removing the sponge and previously placed scleral buckle, they conclude the procedure with balanced salt solution and vancomycin irrigation.
