    Intraocular Lens Scaffolding

    02:51
    Cataract/Anterior Segment

Drs. Abdelrahman Elhusseiny, Riley Sanders, and Ahmed Sallam present a case of posterior capsular tear during nucleus removal, and they demonstrate the technique of using the intraocular lens (IOL) as a scaffold for nucleus removal. Viscoelastic material was injected and the surgeons created a side port for bimanual anterior vitrectomy. The lens fragment was supported and moved anteriorly, the vitrectomy was performed with a high cut rate to remove prolapsed vitreous strands, and the cortex was completely removed. Finally, a 3-piece IOL was injected and dialed into the sulcus.
