Cataract/Anterior Segment
In this video from Dr. Osher's Video Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Boris Malyugin uses his modified capsular tension ring (CTR) to manage a case of blunt trauma with associated cataract formation, iris sphincter tearing, and extensive zonular dialysis.
Dr. Malyugin uses triamcinolone to visualize the vitreous and liberal amounts of viscoelastic to prevent vitreous prolapse. The capsular tension ring (CTR) is injected and fixated to the sclera, stabilizing the capsular bag while the surgeon proceeds with phacoemulsification. Dr. Malyugin completes the case with bimanual irrigation and aspiration, placement of an Akreos hydrophylic acrylic IOL, and a bimanual anterior vitrectomy.
