Managing Diabetic Tractional Detachment

Retina/Vitreous
Dr. Chirag P. Shah, of Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, shows how he safely alleviates tractional retinal detachment and fibrovascular proliferation in this 49-year-old patient using delamination and segmentation. Demonstrating the benefits of new high-speed vitrectomy systems that operate at 5,000 cuts/minute, he uses the vitrector to hold back the retina with the blunt end and the mouth anteriorly positioned. He then dissects the fibrovascular proliferation without dissecting the retina.
